If you’ve been told you need a tooth extracted, you may be wondering how long you’ll have to wait before it can be replaced with a dental implant. Some people are advised to wait six months or more for the area to heal before an implant can be placed—but this isn’t always necessary.
At Alban City Dental & Surgical Centre, we’re pleased to offer same-day dental implants in most cases, provided the case is planned carefully and the tooth is carefully extracted, preserving as much natural bone as possible.
Precision Starts with Planning
With our state-of-the-art CBCT scanner, digital mouth and face scanners on site, we can assess your bone quality, structure, and surrounding anatomy before your extraction. This allows us to create a detailed, accurate plan for placing the implant at the time of removal—saving you time and reducing the number of surgical procedures.
In fact, we’re proud to say that we successfully place an implant at the time of extraction in 98% of cases.
When You Might Not Get a Crown Straight Away
While the implant itself can often be placed immediately, placing the crown (the visible part of the tooth) on the same day isn’t always recommended—especially for back teeth, which experience higher biting forces. In these cases, we allow the implant to integrate with the bone over a few months before fitting the final crown.
In the meantime, you can choose one of the following to maintain function and aesthetics:
