At Alban City Dental & Surgical Centre, we’re able to offer a range of different ways to treat a ‘gummy smile’. In some cases, we may advise crown lengthening, but in other situations, we may be able to do so even less invasively with injections.
What is a gummy smile?
There is no real definition of what constitutes a ‘gummy smile’, and there are a variety of different causes. These include short/small teeth, a too-short upper lip, an upper lip that lifts too high when smiling, enlarged gum tissue and maxillary excess – i.e. an overgrowth of the upper jaw. In most cases, the cause is genetic and very little can be done to prevent it – but we can treat it.
What is the most appropriate treatment for a gummy smile that is caused by a smaller upper lip or a lip that lifts too high when smiling?
Injections are most appropriate for targeting gummy smiles that are caused by a smaller upper lip or a lip that lifts too high when smiling.
